Speaking after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Gen Prawit, also the defence minister, said the army had earlier purchased 28 VT-4 tanks from China while Gen Teerachai Nakwanich was commander-in-chief. The procurement plan was for a full battalion of 49 tanks. After this batch of 10 was delivered, the remaining 11 tanks would follow, Gen Prawit said. Gen Prawit said the new tanks were replacing US-made M-41 light tanks which had been in use for over 40 years.
